
What can I expect in a Maya massage session with Catherine?
I incorporate the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Massage into
a relaxing, full-body massage session tailored to your individual
needs at the time of the session. Each session is intuitively and
uniquely guided to help you achieve your personal healing goals.
I use a variety of massage techniques including Swedish massage,
gentle stretching, myofascial release, acupressure, reflexology
and energy-balancing work. My goal is to help you cultivate a conscious,
positive connection with your body.
For many women, especially those who’ve suffered from reproductive
health imbalances, the relationship with their reproductive organs
is often negative or even nonexistent. Through this modality, I
will work with you to release past emotional and/or physical trauma,
helping you to create a relationship with your body, and womb, that
is positive, love-centered and life-enhancing.

What should I wear?
The session typically begins with the client lying face down underneath
the sheets on the massage table. Clients are usually fully undressed,
but I can also modify the session and work through underwear, even
loose clothing for the client’s comfort, as long as there
are no zippers or belts. I professionally drape undressed clients
with a sheet and blanket for privacy and warmth.
The work on the back is focused on the proper alignment of the
hips, sacrum and pelvis through therapeutic massage and stretching.
I do much of this work through the sheet. The abdominal massage
is completed during the second half of the session, with the client
lying face up on the table. I do this massage directly on the belly
either through the sheet or on the skin using massage oil. The chest
remains covered with a sheet when the belly is exposed.
Why does the initial session last two hours?
The initial session is two hours because it includes a comprehensive,
holistic health overview, followed by an hour-plus of full-body
massage incorporating the Arvigo Techniques. At the end of the massage,
I teach you a simple yet effective self-care massage technique for
you to incorporate into your daily routine. I believe this daily
care is where the real healing happens! I also work with you to
incorporate specific lifestyle changes and other healing modalities
to aid you on your healing path.
Because there
is an emotional aspect to receiving abdominal work, it is my utmost
desire to create a safe space for encouraging emotional release
to aid you in your healing process. This type of bodywork not only
helps to relieve physical symptoms, it is very much a holistic healing
modality, where clients are able to get in touch with emotional,
mental and spiritual blocks to their wellness. I will often coach
clients on particular visualizations and breathing techniques to
support the release of particular blocks to healing and encourage
a receptive environment to the healing energy available. I will
sometimes incorporate acupressure and chakra balancing into the
session, as well, to enhance the flow of energy in the body. In
each session, you are deeply cared for and your ultimate comfort
is my first priority. All follow-up sessions are uniquely tailored
to your particular needs at the time using the same intuitive approach.
